Save Pell Day: It’s GO time

The following comes to us from savepell.org, "a coalition of civil rights, social justice, education, and youth organizations dedicated to protecting college opportunity for low-income and working-class students."

Game on. It’s Save Pell Day.

Visit our online action center and send a clear message to politicians in Washington: Cutting funding for Pell Grants is not an acceptable option!
Here’s how you can help today:
  • Send an e-mail to the President and Congress.
  • Tweet using the #SavePell hashtag.
  • Change your Facebook profile image to the Save Pell logo and update your status to spread the word.
  • Follow the #SavePell hashtag on Twitter to keep up with the day’s events.
Don’t wait — act now.  And when you’re done, ask five friends to do the same.
Together, we can raise our voices and tell Washington to Save Pell.

History On Wheels

In 1920, Ford Motor Company produced 135,002 Model TT pickup trucks, and thanks to the generosity of Midlander Charles Priddy, Midland College now owns one! Priddy recently donated the “fire engine red” truck to MC’s Automotive Technology department.

MC Dean of Technical Studies Curt Pervier, states, “We are so appreciative of Mr. Priddy’s donation. The truck will be a great teaching tool to demonstrate a historical perspective of automobiles.” Pervier further explains that the college also plans to use the truck in parades and for displays to promote college programs and events.

The 1920 Model TT truck was based on Ford’s classic Model T automobile, but with a heavier frame and rear axle. It was very durable for the time, but won’t win any NASCAR races! With standard gearing, the truck can attain a speed of not more than 15 mph; with special gearing, a speed of not more than 22 mph is attained. The truck is definitely reflective of a time when life was simpler and things were taken at a slower pace — yet another history lesson for MC’s students!

South Plains Sunrise

On a drive north of Midland, MC Athletic Director Forrest Allen stopped to take this photo, confirming what all West Texas drivers know ... the perk's of those long hours we spend on the road include some awesome views like this, especially at day's beginning, and day's end.
